January 11-15, 2006
The 2006 Conference on Historical and Underwater Archaeology was held in Sacramento, California, January 11-15, 2006.
The theme for the SHA 2006 conference is “Life on the Edge.” In commemoration of such disparate but related events as the 100th anniversaries of the Antiquities Act and the San Francisco Earthquake, the 2006 meetings focus attention on the archaeology of the edges of empires, oceans, disasters, technologies, innovations, partnerships, and cultures. In addition, a number of
combined terrestrial and underwater symposia have been developed, and sessions and workshops showcasing new methods and technologies are part of the program. The Opening Reception includes a fascinating demonstration by forensic search dogs; there is a far-reaching and forward-looking thematic Plenary Session, and a collection of informative papers, posters, workshops, and
tours throughout the conference.
