FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Queens College, CUNY seeks to fill a tenure-track position in Historical Archaeology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2020.  The successful candidate should have an active research program in North America on the archaeology of the African diaspora, slavery, indigenous societies, colonialism, or immigration.

Teaching priorities include 1) course in the geographic area of specialization; 2) Historical Archaeology; 3) Introduction to Archaeology; and 4) Research Design and Method.  Preference will be given to candidates whose research demonstrates effective application of quantitative approaches to data analysis and a field or laboratory research project that could involve Queens College undergraduate students.

The Department emphasizes an integrated four-field approach to anthropology and is associated with the CUNY Ph.D. Program in Anthropology.  The Department of Anthropology has 16 full-time faculty, 120 majors in the BA program, and an enrollment of 3,000 undergraduate students in its courses every semester.  The faculty is unionized, and CUNY offers an excellent benefits package.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology or related field.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. The successful candidate should have an active research program in historical archaeology of North America, research record demonstrating effective application of quantitative approaches to data analysis and the ability to offer a field or laboratory research project that could involve Queens College undergraduate students.
