Tenure-Track position in Historical Archaeology

The Department of Anthropology at Syracuse University invites applications for a tenure-track position in historical archaeology at the assistant professor level effective Fall 2023. Candidates must be engaged in theory-driven lab and/or field research that compliments and expands upon the Department\'s existing areas, methodological, and research foci in and of the modern world. Research area and topical specializations are open; however, we are especially interested in candidates with expertise in (but not limited to) colonialism, cross-cultural entanglements, biocultural approaches to human/environmental change, zooarchaeology, paleoethnobotany, or multispecies relations. Candidates are expected to engage with researchers at Syracuse, including those in Geography and the Environment, Native American and Indigenous Studies, Food Studies, Earth and Environmental Sciences, among others. The successful candidate is expected to teach large introductory anthropology courses, topical courses, including methods-focused courses, and a graduate-level archaeology course.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to research as well as to undergraduate and graduate education. The Maxwell School especially seeks candidates open to collaboration and an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research. The successful candidate will be expected to teach two courses per semester.
Required: A Ph.D. in Anthropology is expected at time of appointment.
