Senior Staff Archaeologist
The Senior Staff Archaeologist designs, plans, and oversees fieldwork, historical research, post-excavation analysis, and report preparation. The position presents findings to scholarly, professional, and public audiences and supervises project archaeologists, field technicians, excavators, volunteers, and interpreters at assigned sites. The Senior Staff Archaeologist collaborates with outside institutions, particularly the College of William and Mary, through support of the CWF/W&M field school in Historical Archaeology. The position facilitates the safety of archaeological resources throughout the historic area by working with Property Management and Architecture & Engineering to mitigate impact on cultural resources before and during construction projects. The position also serves as departmental lead in assigned administrative areas such as information systems development and management or interpreter training.
