Gray & Pape, a national and international cultural heritage management firm, is seeking a full-time Practice Leader – Maritime Services. The successful candidate will possess the skills, abilities, education, and experience to lead the Maritime Services practice group, foster innovation in marine projects, lead and mentor members of the practice group, and provide quality control in all Maritime projects and proposals. The Practice Leader – Maritime Services functions as a Principal-in-Charge, Project Manager, and/or Principal Investigator on all projects, and assures that all work products address the RFP/SOW requirements and provide professionally defensible methods. The Practice Leader – Maritime Services will support business development, foster productive relationships with clients, prepare/review proposals, and grow internal capabilities to meet our clients’ needs. Responsibilities will also include community outreach and tribal engagement.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a minimum of M.A./M.S. in Anthropology, or related field, with an emphasis in underwater archaeology, plus 8 years supervisory and project management experience in maritime archaeology; experience as a professional marine archaeologist in the Northeast and Middle Atlantic US is preferred. The successful candidate must be able to function as a Qualified Marine Archaeologist (QMA) to Bureau of Ocean Energy Management standards regarding identification and treatment of historic properties in federal waters. Ability to work from our Providence, RI, office is preferred.

The Maritime Practice Leader must have proven ability and experience with collecting and interpreting data from geophysical surveys using remote-sensing technologies, including side-scan sonar, magnetometer, gradiometer, sub-bottom profiler systems, and multibeam to identify potential cultural resources (historical and pre-contact). The candidate should also be a certified diver and have experience utilizing Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) to assess targets of interest. Experience overseeing dive-related cultural resources projects and submerged paleo-landscapes is strongly preferred. Other applicable skills and experience include: demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and on budget. The successful candidate must possess a thorough understanding of the legal frameworks of the position and industry. A driver’s license is required.

This position may require up to 40% travel. Frequently this travel is outside the local area and includes overnight stays.
