NE Laboratory Manager

Gray & Pape, a national and international cultural heritage management (CRM) firm, is seeking a NE Laboratory Manager in our Providence, RI office. Expected salary range for this role is $60,000-$65,000. This role is full time, regular status, exempt position. Gray & Pape offers a hybrid work environment with built in flexibility for days in the office.
Summary of the Role:
The Northeast (NE) Laboratory Manager is responsible for coordinating and managing laboratory operations in the NE region to ensure archaeological materials are appropriately processed, analyzed, reported, and curated within project schedules and budgets. In addition, this role assists the Corporate Safety Director in providing company-wide safety and health support to field and office employees, assists with coordination and review of training and safety plans, and coordinating safety equipment needs companywide. 75% of the time this role will operate as the NE Laboratory Manager and 25% of the time, this role will support the Corporate Safety Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A./M.S. in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
- Two years of archaeological laboratory experience with a minimum of two additional years of laboratory supervisory experience.
- Familiarity with computer database and word processing programs, with specific experience in artifact cataloging, analysis, and reporting software.
- Familiarity with New England settlement patterns and associated cultural materials (both pre- and post-contact period).
- Demonstrated experience with and implementation of state and federal curation guidelines and procedures.
- Knowledge of safety and risk management issues specific to CRM field, lab, and office environments.
- Demonstrated self-starter with excellent organizational and communication capabilities; able to function successfully as part of a project team.
- Willingness to learn new techniques and skills.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to operate a passenger car/light truck.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with job hazard analyses and/or risk analyses for archaeological field and lab work.
- Experience with preparation of project Health and Safety Plans.
Skills
Laboratory Analysis: demonstrable experience with archaeological sample and artifact analysis in a CRM environment.
Collections Management: demonstrated experience managing all aspects of artifact processing, analysis, and curation protocols as applied to pre- and post-contact artifact assemblages.
Database Management: Proficient in the organization, management, and storage of electronic and paper resources. Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel. Demonstrated expertise using pivot tables and tabularizing data.
Laboratory and Corporate Safety: Experience with the implementation of safe laboratory practices and procedures. Knowledge of common chemicals used in laboratory analysis/curation and the safe use and storage of chemicals is preferred. Experience communicating safety protocols and training colleagues who are operating in various work environments. Experience coordinating supply and equipment orders based on internal assessment and communication with other regions.
Travel
Travel is project dependent with an estimated expectation of travel up to 10%. Travel may be outside the local area and overnight.
