Redhorse Corporation is hiring a Lead Archaeologist in Barstow, CA, on a multi-year task with the U.S. Army Department of Public Works at Fort Irwin.

Responsibilities for the Lead Archaeologist include:
Lead a team of employees that conduct archaeological surveys to ensure compliance with historic preservation and archaeological protection laws
Lead and/or supervise monitoring of Off-Limits Archaeological sites to ensure protection from mission-related activities
Conduct surveys prior to approval of dig permit requests to ensure protection of significant cultural or paleontological resources
Conduct background records searches, inventory and evaluation of cultural resources for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)
Author, review, and provide mentorship on a variety of survey and inventory reports and consultation packages to SHPO and Native American tribes, to include the ability to make recommendations to work directly with the client
Oversee curation of archival materials in Fort Irwin’s Curation Facility
Ensure that all tasks associated with contract activities are completed within the required suspense dates
Ensure that data collection and drafting or reports are conducted with the highest quality possible
Conduct or assist with outreach briefings and events to promote cultural resources awareness

Minimum Basic requirements for Skills, Experience, Education and Credentials:
Master of Art degree in Archaeology or related degree with 6-8 years of relevant experience
Must have working knowledge of the Antiquities Act; the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA); the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA); The National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA); Curation of Federally Owned and Administered Archaeological Collections (36 CFR 79); and the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA)
Must have experience conducting archaeological field work
Must have experience managing teams and working directly with clients
Strong leadership, communication and project management skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Well-developed verbal and technical report writing skills
Working knowledge of standard office computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, etc.)
Working knowledge of ArcGIS computer software
Ability to pass a government-administered background investigation in order to be granted a Common Access Card and access to government IT systems.
Candidates for this position must be able to work in changing physical conditions:
in extreme climatic conditions and rapidly changing temperatures;
Must be able walk over long distances and across of variety of terrains, including uneven surfaces;
Must be able to climb, jump, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl;
Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs across a distance of as much as 30 yards;
Must be able to work with minimal supervision;
Must possess or be able to obtain a standard California Driver\'s License; candidate may be required to operate a government-owned motor vehicle safely
Must be able to use GPS technology, read maps, and be skilled in North American compliance Archaeological techniques and practices.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with the Department of Defense (DoD)
Experience working in the Mojave Desert and Great Basin and the ability to work extended hours in various weather conditions
Experience navigating and collecting data using GSP technology
