The Department of History invites applications from experienced maritime archaeologists for a non-faculty EHRA position in its Program in Maritime Studies, a distinguished graduate program offering the MA in nautical archaeology and maritime history. The position is for a one year term from the date of hire. The holder of the position will be responsible for field project planning and supervision, equipment maintenance and organization, and Program field project logistical support. Assistant Staff Maritime Archaeologist will report to the Program Director and Staff Maritime Archaeologist. Specific field support duties related to two annual maritime studies field schools plus grant-funded projects will include student supervision and diving safety procedure; vehicle operation; boat launch, retrieval, operation and logistics; use of remote sensing apparatus (magnetometer, side scan, ROV, and supporting software including Hypack and ArcView); equipment set-up and student equipment training; diving logistics and site safety engineering; small engine and electronic equipment repair and service; vehicle maintenance; and equipment inventory organization and storage. |
