Assistant Professor of Historical Archeology

The Department of Historic Preservation at the University of Mary Washington invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in historical archaeology beginning August 2017. In addition to teaching the introductory sequence in historic preservation, the successful candidate will assume primary responsibility for courses focusing on archaeology including an introductory course, those on field and laboratory methods, and on archaeological analyses and interpretations. 

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in anthropology, archaeology, or related field. Experience in providing students a challenging learning environment in which they gain theoretical and practical knowledge of historical archaeology focusing on the United States is strongly preferred. Use of current relevant technologies is important. The successful applicant also must have a thorough knowledge of architectural history in the U.S. in a preservation context. Experience and/or education in historic preservation is strongly preferred. Additional interests such as Cultural Resource Management are welcome.
