The Anthropology Department at Rhode Island College invites applications for the full-time, tenure track position of Assistant Professor, Anthropology. The individual will teach introductory and upper-level courses in Archaeology and/or Biological Anthropology, and in the General Education program, especially one of the existing Advanced Quantitative and Scientific Reasoning course(s) in Anthropology; advise students; engage in scholarly research and professional activities and participate in College and Departmental activities and service.

Founded in 1854, Rhode Island College is a distinctive regional college personalizing education for undergraduate and graduate students.  The college serves approximately 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students through its five schools: the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development, the School of Business, the School of Nursing and the School of Social Work. 

The 180-acre campus is located in beautiful, historic Providence, Rhode Island’s capital, with excellent proximity to the academic and cultural resources of Boston and New York City.

Required qualifications include: Ph.D. in Anthropology and records of excellence in undergraduate teaching and field research.

Preferred qualifications include: Archaeologist or Biological Anthropologist with a focus on one or more of the following areas: human-climate interactions, implications of and responses to the anthropogenic (including industrial) landscape, the Anthropocene; engaged in field research in the region (the mid-Atlantic, the Northeast or southeastern Canada); have experience directing or running a field school and/or be willing to start one; established track record in directing student inquiry and research; commitment to locally engaged anthropology.
