Assistant Professor, Anthropology (Specialization: Black and/or Indigenous Studies)
The Department of Geography and Anthropology invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Anthropology with a focus on community-based research in Black and/or Indigenous studies in what is now the United States, with training or scholarship in ethnic studies. Candidates should have existing or evidence of future research and teaching expertise in at least one of the following areas: race, racialization and/or racial formation, African American and Diaspora studies, settler colonialism, anti-racist anthropology, citizenship, sovereignty or related areas. The position requires excellence in teaching and advising, professional and scholarly achievements, and service to the department, university, and community. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in relation to race, ethnicity, gender, class, age, religion, disability, documentation status, and sexuality.
Minimum requirements:
• Ph.D. in Anthropology by the time of appointment.
• Evidence of university teaching, either as a teaching assistant or instructor of record.
• Active community-based research in Black and/or Indigenous studies in what is now the United States.
• Ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through teaching, research, service, and fostering an inclusive environment.
• Ability to develop and teach a general education course that meets the requirements for Area F Ethnic Studies courses
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
• Ability to teach courses in area of specialization and support the department and its needs.
• An active program of relevant research with student involvement.
• Ability to serve as an advisor and research mentor to a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body.
