As-Needed Archaeologist – Orange County Office
HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc. (HELIX), a growing, employee-owned California-based environmental consulting and planning firm, is seeking as-needed archaeologists for assignments in our Southern California region. HELIX offers environmental, biological, cultural resources, acoustical, air quality, and architectural landscape services to both public and private sectors. The Southern California cultural resource team conducts Section 106 compliant record searches and field surveys, evaluates buildings and structures for NRHP eligibility and provides detailed compliance reports for a variety of clients and carriers in LA, Orange, and Riverside counties.
The successful applicant should have experience that includes conducting and/or requesting records searches at Southern California Information Centers, an in-depth understanding of Section 106 regulations and National Register of Historic Places (NR) listings, conducting field surveys independently, and report preparation that meets the requirements of the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO). Candidates must have experience in Southern California archaeology; possess excellent writing and communication skills; be detail oriented and able to work independently.

Minimum Requirements
- Professional work experience in Southern California archaeology
- Experience evaluating resources/buildings/structures for listing on the National Register of Historic Places
- Be detail oriented, self-motivated and possess excellent writing skills
- Ability to quickly and efficiently organize, evaluate, and complete numerous projects within stringent deadlines
- Possess a valid California Driver’s License and 3 years clean driving record
Additional skills considered a plus
- Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology or archaeology or closely related field or equivalent experience
