Description:

Gray & Pape, a national and international cultural heritage management (CRM) firm, is seeking a Architectural Historian II to join our History/Architecture practice in our Cincinnati, OH office. This role is full time, regular status, non-exempt.

Summary of the Role:

The Architectural Historian II functions as an architectural historian, historian, or preservation planner and is responsible for conducting historical research; built environment surveys, resource inventories, and documentation; and preparation of environmental, land use, and historic contexts.

Key Duties:

  • Performs historical research online and in-person at a variety of repositories and archives. 
  • Disseminates historical research and writes context and significance statements. 
  • Prepares project specific work and safety plans. 
  • Conducts reconnaissance and Phase I built environment surveys following established methods and federal and state guidelines. 
  • Completes written documentation of the built environment.
  • Uses National Register of Historic Places Criteria to make preliminary resource evaluations and recommendations. 
  • Responsible for the organization and completion of project-specific reports. 
  • Assist in research and fieldwork on archaeology projects as needed.  
  • Maintain the highest quality work standards.  
  • Complete work within assigned schedules and budgets. 
  • Maintain a commitment to promoting equity and inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A./M.S. in History, Historic Preservation, Architectural History, or related field plus 3 years CRM experience with demonstrable report writing experience.  
  • Understanding of the application of National Register of Historic Places criteria and the Section 106 process. 
  • Demonstrated skills in historical research and writing architectural description
  • Proficient in photography of architectural resources including use of standard 35mm, SLR digital cameras, and tablets. 
  • Technological skills: ESRI Survey 123, Collector, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat. 
  • Experience working within report templates and following style guides.
  • Familiarity with GIS software. 
  • Traditional and digital mapping, including GPS-based mapping skills and measured drawing. 
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and tasks concurrently.  
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.  
  • Display curiosity and respect for others’ perspectives and strengths. 
  • Commitment to promoting equity and inclusion.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Travel is required, project-dependent, and with an expectation of travel outside the local area and for multiple days. Some projects may require extended travel.
