Position Title: Project Director and Adjunct Instructor of Anthropology 

Description:

The Louisiana Public Archaeology Lab at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette has an immediate opening for an archaeologist to serve as a Project Director and Adjunct Instructor of Anthropology. The position is a non-tenure track, annual (12-month) research appointment, with a starting salary of $65,000 per year and comprehensive benefits, including health care and retirement. The initial appointment will be for two years, with continued employment dependent on successful completion of sponsored research and procurement of grants. Review of applicants to begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. 

Qualifications and Requirements:

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Anthropology or Archaeology, with demonstrated expertise in the archaeology of the southeastern U.S. and experience in all stages of archaeological research, including research design, fieldwork, analyses, and reporting. Qualified applicants with a Ph.D. and prior experience directing archaeological research in Louisiana or the Lower Mississippi Valley will be preferred. Evidence of successful projects should include authorship of technical reports.  

Responsibilities:

The Project Director will conduct archaeological investigations in Louisiana, including Phase II test excavations and Phase III data recovery, involving the management and supervision of all fieldwork and laboratory activities. The Project Director will collaborate with the principal investigator on research design, implementation, and reporting. Appointment as an Adjunct Instructor in the Anthropology program will involve teaching one to two applied research courses per year, including an archaeology field school and archaeological records/lab.
