The SHA Scholarship Program
The Society for Historical Archaeology announces the establishment of the SHA Scholarship Program. The purpose of the scholarship program is to provide funding for students, who are current SHA members, to attend a field school and/or to conduct dissertation research/fieldwork.
Field School Scholarships: The Field School Scholarship program will place priority on awarding scholarships for students to participate in field schools that provide instruction in historical archaeology and archaeological field methods. The 2021 deadline for applications is May 15, 2021.
Dissertation Research Scholarship: This program will place priority on awarding scholarships to students to cover travel and other expenses related to conducting research to complete their dissertation in historical archaeology. The 2021 deadline for application is June 15, 2021.
The scholarship application process will be announced annually.
A committee of SHA members will review applications each year and select awardees. Scholarships will be offered each year that the Society receives funding from the donor. The committee will identify the number and amount of scholarships to be awarded each year.
Applications will be submitted in the spring for both programs. All applications will be vetted and the top candidates will be interviewed via Zoom.
Applicants will be advised that if they receive financial aid from their university, their eligibility for other sources of aid may be affected upon receipt of a scholarship. They will be encouraged to consult with their university’s financial aid office before applying for a scholarship.
