Archaeology Supervisor – Field Coordinator for the Museum Archaeology Program

Job Information: The Wisconsin Historical Society is seeking an innovative leader join our Museum Archaeology Program staff.

Required Education and Experience

• Must meet federally mandated minimum qualifications for a professional archaeologist as outlined in the U.S. Secretary of Interior’s Standards and Guidelines (36 CFR Part 61).
• Be a professional in either prehistoric archeology or historic archeology as per 36 CFR Part 61. A professional in prehistoric archaeology shall have at least one year of full-time professional experience at a supervisory level in the study of archaeological resources of the prehistoric period. A professional in historic archaeology shall have at least one year of full-time experience at a supervisory level in the study of archaeological resources of the historic period.
• Experience with Project Scoping and budget development (identifying goals, deliverables, schedule and budget creation for projects)
• Experience working on three or more projects simultaneously with overlapping timetables for completion
• Experience directing and leading daily work for staff (scheduling, reviewing work, assigning duties).
• Experience directing archaeological field research of multiple phases and site types.

Responsibilities Include

• Serve as a principal investigator by developing or overseeing the development of project budgets, schedules and proposals, which detail research goals, and field and laboratory methods and techniques.
• Coordinate multiple archaeological field crews and project schedules
• Implement policies and procedures for archaeological field research
• Monitor the identification and analysis of artifacts and samples, and the preparation of technical reports
• Develop mitigation documentation including Determinations of Eligibility, Data Recovery Plans, and documentation for consultation under 36 CFR 800. 8, Regulations of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation Governing the Section 106 Review Process.

Compensation. $48,630 to $80,267 annual salary depending on experience and qualifications plus excellent benefits.
