Position Title: Staff Archaeologist
Grade and Salary (P/L): Grade: PL-16/1 - 16/3
Salary: $36,000.00 - $40,000.00
Ministry and Division: Internal Affairs HBO Division
Location: Majuro
Reports to: Deputy of HPO, Asst. Secretaries of LA

JOB PURPOSE: Serve as the Republic’s technical expert on archaeology and historic preservation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for archaeological administration and resources management.
2. Responsible for archaeological fieldwork including survey, excavation, and laboratory analysis.
3. Assist the Deputy HPO in preparing Historic Preservation Plans.
4. Assist in developing educational programs.
5. Develop policy and program for the utilization of cultural and historical properties and information.
6. Head the archaeological compliance program of the Historic Preservation Act of 1991.
7. Train HPO staff in archaeology and cultural resource management.
8. Assessing condition and evaluating the significance of a variety of cultural resources.
9. Designing and managing cultural resource databases.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned from time to time.

MAIN DUTIES AND OUTCOMES:
1.1 Train Historic Preservation office staff in archaeology and cultural resource management to enable them to be as knowledge, self-sufficient and self-directed as possible in
carrying out their mission.
2.3 Develop, coordinate and carrying out plans for archaeological surveys and test exactions including the preparation and delivery of final reports.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from recognized college or university with a Master degree in Archaeology plus at least one (1) year of full-time professional experience or
equivalent specialized training in Archaeological research, administration, or management plus at least four (4) months o f supervised field and analytic experience in general Pacific Island
Archaeology plus Demonstrated ability to carry research to completion and at least one year of full-time experience at a supervisory level (Principle Investigator) in the study of Archaeology resources. OR, any combination of education and experience, which may be acceptable to the Public Service Commission.
