The National Science Foundation and Historical Archaeology
Recently, social science funding by the National Science Foundation has come under attack by some representatives in the United States Congress. The Society for Historical Archaeology has contacted these representatives, but would like your feedback regarding governmental support for archaeological research and public outreach programs.
If you have been supported by the National Science Foundation, we would like to hear your story. Please fill out the form below and be sure to include a brief description of your project; note clearly what important, specific things you learned about life in the past from the project; and most importantly indicate how the project directly benefitted your career, your institution/organization, and the community or communities associated with the project. The latter should be discussed in terms of concrete social and economic benefits. Please answer the questions so they can be understood by a general audience.
If you are having any trouble with the form, please email us at social@sha.org with the subject line “NSF Form Help” or send us a message on Twitter @SHA_Org.
