Important News for SHA Members
Dear SHA Members,
I am delighted to inform you that the SHA Board has approved entering into an agreement with Springer to publish Historical Archaeology beginning with HA. 51.1 (2017). After reviewing partnership proposals from three publishers in 2015, an ad hoc committee consisting of Chris Matthews, Joe Joseph, Annalies Corbin, Ben Ford, and Sara Mascia, recommended pursuing an agreement with Springer, who offered SHA the best deal in terms of the quality of publishing services and support as well as an excellent financial package.
In this partnership several aspects of the production and management of Historical Archaeology will shift to Springer who will (1) provide an online system for article submission and peer review; (2) organize the composition, printing and mailing of the journal; (3) provide online access to the full run of the journal to SHA members through the Springer website; and (4) provide global promotional and marketing support.
As part of the agreement, Book Reviews and Technical Briefs articles will be incorporated into the print version of the journal as well as be available on line. All journal content will also continue to be available on JSTOR, as of three years after the date of publication. Springer is also planning to provide journal content through other similar services, further expanding our reach.
As an SHA member, the transition to Springer will be seamless. Current issues of Historical Archaeology will continue to be available to SHA members only. You will continue to receive four issues of the journal per year by mail. Claims for issues not received and any change of address should still be sent to the SHA Business Office.
SHA President Joe Joseph and I will post a longer discussion of the advantages of this partnership to the SHA and its members later in the summer.
All the best,
Chris Matthews, Journal Editor
