Dear SHA Members,

Please read below an opportunity to apply for a Coalition for Archaeological Synthesis’s design workshop on Urban Adaptation to Environmental Change. SHA is firmly committed to climate heritage issues and recognizes our membership’s interest and potential for meaningful contributions to this topic.

Applications are now being accepted from researchers and other professionals in archaeology and allied disciplines who interested in participating in a project focused on urban adaptation to environmental change. CfAS and the Amerind Museum are sponsoring this effort to connect archaeological research on urban adaptation to environmental change with contemporary efforts at fostering climate resilient urban development. Workshop participants will seek to address questions being asked by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for their 7th Assessment Report Cycle, which will include a special report on equitable and climate-resilient urban development in the face of global climate change.

Through a fall 2024 design workshop at the Amerind Museum, one or more collaborative synthetic working group projects and/or high-profile publications will be designed by a diverse group of 12-14 researchers. Selection of participants will give priority to those who control and are willing to share pertinent data or those who have demonstrated theoretical and/or methodological expertise in urban adaptation and resiliency. Participants are sought from relevant disciplines including, but not limited to: archaeology, environmental science, sustainability science, anthropology, demography, geography, history, economics, and sociology. For more information, see the request for information letter here. And to apply, fill out the application form available here.

The deadline has been extended to May 17th.
