Join us for Public Archaeology Day 2025, a free event hosted by the Society for Historical Archaeology (SHA) as part of the 2025 Annual Conference. This family-friendly event brings archaeology to life through interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and captivating presentations. Whether you’re an archaeologist, an archaeology enthusiast, a history lover, or just looking for a fun and educational outing, consider joining us!
Event Highlights
- Interactive Exhibits: Explore nine unique displays presented by cultural resource firms, universities, and government agencies. These exhibits showcase cutting-edge archaeological research, local heritage, and preservation efforts.
- Expert Presentations: Three talks will explore fascinating topics in local archaeology.
- Special Presentation for Kids: “Introduction to Underwater Archaeology” – An exciting and interactive session designed to spark young imaginations.
Admission is free, and everyone is welcome!

All presentations will take place in the Museum’s Jazz Education Center.
12:00-12:30 p.m. – Dr. Chip McGimsey and Josetta LeBouef (Louisiana Division of Archaeology): Recent Archaeological Excavations around the State of Louisiana
1:00-1:30 p.m. – Dr. Ryan Gray (University of New Orleans): New Orleans Archaeology
2:00-2:30 p.m. – Nicole Grinnan, M.A., RPA (University of West Florida): Introduction to Underwater Archaeology – for Kids!
