Dear SHA Members,

The SHA Antiracism Workshop scheduled for October 14 will be a continuation of the discussions started at the workshop in 2020.  This year's workshop is not a repeat of last year's, so if you're thinking you already know what will be presented, perhaps you should reconsider.

The October 14 workshop will focus on "Where Do We Go From Here?" and will look at:

  • Recent updates on equity and inclusion discussions and debates and their impacts on SHA;
  • Identifying, developing, and promoting approaches to antiracism, inclusion, diversity, belonging, and mattering within the SHA and how they are crucial to our future;
  • Facilitating conversations and navigating disagreement and conflict around antiracism, equity, and inclusion;
  • Embedding anti-racist and anti-biased actions into professional organizations and our work and learning spaces; and
  • Strategies for identifying and overcoming equity and inclusion fatigue and resistance.

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we are able to offer free registration to a limited number of students, who want to attend the workshop.  Contact SHA Headquarter at hq@sha.org if you are interested.

An SHA member recently shared his thoughts on how he has benefited from participating in the antiracism workshops over the year: "This is a lifelong journey, but I feel I have made considerable progress thanks in no small part to the workshops made available through the SHA. They keep me balanced and accountable and remind me of how I want to live in the world and help me to shape the world in positive ways. If you have not yet participated, by all means consider doing so. And if you have, I hope to see you back again. I promise you it won’t be a waste of your time and it may lead you on a life-changing journey well worth taking."

Registration for the October 14, 2021 workshop will close next Tuesday, October 12.  Please take a minute to send in your registration form today.
