Dear SHA Members,

Given the ongoing uncertainty about the course of COVID-19 and talk of a “second wave” this fall and its potential impact on international travel, the SHA Board of Directors has decided to move the planned SHA 2021 Conference in Lisbon, Portugal to 2023 and go to a “virtual” conference format for the SHA 2021 Conference.  We are very grateful to Tania Manuel Casimiro and the Lisbon Conference team for all of their work and for their willingness to move the Lisbon Conference to 2023.

We see the SHA 2021 Virtual Conference as an opportunity to innovate and reimagine the conference format in a time of crisis while still providing members with a chance to share their approaches to research and practice, and to network and learn.  While we won’t be able to meet up at the bar and share a beer, we hope to insure that the 2021 Conference offers many of the same valuable experiences that have made our annual gatherings so successful for many years.

Work on a virtual conference has begun, and we’re looking for your input!  You will be receiving an email shortly with a link to a brief survey that will help us with our planning efforts.  Please take a minute to complete the survey.

Information on the SHA 2021 Conference will be sent out as soon as it is available, including the Call for Papers.  All information will be posted to the SHA website, so be sure to check the website often.

I realize many of you will be disappointed our plans for a Lisbon Conference have been delayed.  I know I am.

I hope you are all well and staying safe during these unsettling times.

Sincerely,

Barbara J. Heath
SHA President
