General Statement: The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Memphis offers a B.A. M.A., M.S. and Ph.D. in Earth Sciences with a concentration in Archaeology. The program emphasizes the archaeology of the Southeast, from early prehistory through the historic period. The department operates a museum at Chucalissa, a Mississippian period site in Memphis, and students have the opportunity to work closely and study with museum professionals there and at other institutions in the city. Ours is a geoarchaeology program; therefore, the emphasis is on training students to work as professional archaeologists.
