General Statement: The program in Anthropology at Monmouth University offers an M.A. degree with a focus on historical archaeology. Research emphasis is the historical archaeology of eastern North America, with particular strengths in military sites archaeology, vernacular architecture, monuments and commemoration, and domestic site archaeology. Ongoing projects include fieldwork at 17th, 18th, and 19th century sites in the Delaware Valley and in eastern New Jersey. Resources include a GIS laboratory, substantial artifact collections dating from the 17th through 19th centuries, and extensive library resources. Summer 2020 field school will be held at the 1719 William Trent House. Recent Projects have includedarchaeological surveys at Orange Valley Plantation, Jamaica; Morristown National Historical Park; Sandy Hook Lighthouse; Joseph Bonaparte’s Point Breeze Estate, Bordentown, New Jersey; Cedar Bridge Tavern, Barnegat, New Jersey; and the Lazaretto in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
