General Statement: La Trobe University offers two-year coursework Masters in Professional Archaeology (including historical archaeology) in addition to traditional research M.A. and Ph.D. degrees specializing in historical archaeology and a Bachelor in Archaeology. Research and fieldwork in historical archaeology are primarily focused on Australia and the United Kingdom, although members of the department are also involved in China, Cyprus, Jordan, France, Kenya, Mexico, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Facilities include four laboratories, a computer laboratory, a GIS laboratory, a darkroom, a microscope room, and three four-wheel-drive vehicles for staff and postgraduate research. The school has agreements with the Museum of Victoria, Heritage Victoria, and the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales, which facilitate ongoing access to collections and research projects, and a cooperative agreement with the leading heritage management firm of Godden Mackay Logan. La Trobe University makes available a limited number of full research scholarships for Ph.D. candidates.
