Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced conservation professional with expertise in the conservation and management of archaeological heritage to fill the position of Senior Project Specialist in the Getty Conservation lnstitute's Buildings and Sites Department. As Senior Project Specialist, you will oversee a selection of international projects-from visioning and designing to implementing and monitoring­ aimed at addressing current conservation challenges of international or regional relevance.

Mission

The Getty Conservation Institute {GCI) works internationally to advance conservation practice in the visual arts-broadly interpreted to include objects, collections, architecture, and sites. The Institute serves the conservation community through scientific research, education and training, field projects, and the dissemination of information. In all its endeavors, the GCI creates and delivers knowledge that contributes to the conservation of the world's cultural heritage.

Major Responsibilities

  • Lead a selection of model field projects-which involve research, training, and capacity building-and develop principles, methodologies, techniques, tools, and emerging technologies that enhance understanding about cultural heritage places and improve their practical
  • Assess and identify strategic issues concerning conservation and management of historic buildings and sites, specifically archaeological heritage; and scope, develop, implement, and manage projects that address issues of international or regional relevance.
  • Manage and provide direction to multi-disciplinary project teams, which include staff, interns, consultants, and project Also, responsible for supervising and mentoring multiple direct reports.
  • Provide advice and work collaboratively with project teams to resolve technical or operational project issues.
  • Develop strong relationships with project partners and work collaboratively to build local expertise, through seminars, symposia, and workshops, and ensure the long-term sustainability of project outcomes.
  • Maintain a large professional network within the international conservation
  • Develop resource plans and manage project
  • Undertake research, write, publish, and present at professional venues in order to broadly disseminate information resulting from projects.
  • Professional development is encouraged and supported through attendance at specialized training courses and participation in professional meetings and workshops.
  • Work will be based in our offices at the Getty Center in Los Angeles and will also require frequent international travel.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in architecture, archaeology, conservation, urban planning, or related discipline
  • Master's degree in cultural heritage conservation or equivalent practical conservation experience
  • Minimum of 7-15 years of specialized and targeted international project management experience working in cultural heritage conservation

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge and proven competency in the practical conservation of archeological
  • Experience managing teams and supervising staff, interns, and
  • Skill and demonstrated experience in designing, initiating, budgeting, and managing international conservation projects.
  • Ability to demonstrate strategic vision for addressing conservation
  • Must be adaptable, analytical, a positive problem-solver, and a creative
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and research
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary and international teams of staff, interns, consultants, and project partners.
  • Requires a high degree of organization and efficiency.
  • Must be available for frequent international travel
  • Fluency in a language in addition to English is valuable in this position.
