Description
The Department of Anthropology at Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a specialization in maritime archaeology. This is a full-time, 9-month appointment beginning August 1, 2022. The ideal candidate will have a broad background in maritime archaeology, including archaeological artifact documentation and analysis techniques, combined with advanced knowledge of archaeological conservation and/or ship reconstruction. Geographic area and chronological period are open, although particular consideration will be given to candidates who specialize in post-medieval and/or Asian seafaring. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct field and laboratory research in maritime archaeology, mentor PhD and undergraduate students, teach a 2-2 course load including undergraduate and graduate courses in maritime archaeology and anthropology, and participate in service at the department, college, and university levels.
Qualifications
PhD in-hand; a PhD conferred before December 31, 2021 is desired, however, strong applicants who are scheduled to have the PhD in-hand by June 1, 2022 will also be considered. Applicants should have a proven record of research, publication, and external funding that is commensurate with the present stage of their career, and the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in maritime archaeology and anthropology.
