Our Houston office is seeking a Historic Preservation Specialist/Architectural Historian to become a core member of the Cultural Resources program and collaborate with SWCA’s managers, directors, and principal investigators on technical efforts throughout the region.
 
What you will accomplish:
 
Responsible for all aspects of project execution, including conducting historic resources surveys and archival research, historic building assessments, architectural view-shed studies, preparing historic context statements, evaluating resources under National Register of Historic Places significance criteria, and preparation of historic resources technical reports, and nominations to the National Register of Historic Places and the State Register of Cultural Properties.
 
Experience and qualifications for success:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in architectural history, historic preservation or a closely related field required; Master’s degree preferred
A working knowledge of federal and state cultural resource and historic preservation laws and practices, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and Texas Antiquities Code
Experience recording architectural resources on architectural inventory forms
Familiarity with architectural styles and architectural writing
Familiarity with nineteenth and twentieth century commercial and residential architecture
Individual must meet Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards (36 Code of Federal Regulations, CFR Part 61)
Knowledge of the history and architectural history of Texas preferred
Previous field experience recording, evaluating and reporting on architectural resources
Experience with application of The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation (36 CFR Part 67) and Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record documentation and procedures are preferred
Experience working on National Register Nominations preferred
