Overview

SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding their team and looking for on-call Cultural Resources Field Technicians to join our field crew on large survey projects starting at the end of April 2022 and running through the summer. Fieldwork will be conducted in consistent 8-day field sessions, averaging 40 hour weeks with overtime paid for work over those 40 hours. The positions are based in Portland, Oregon. Wages are hourly between $20 to $23 based on level of experience.

Responsibilities

  • The work will generally include archaeological pedestrian survey supplemented with shovel testing.
  • Heavy machinery monitoring, and associated field recording will be common activities, including completing forms, digital photography and in-field mapping, as will National Register testing and data recovery procedures on larger projects.
  • Assist the field directors and project managers to complete archaeological desktop analyses, office and lab work and GPS data collection in the field.
  • Record archaeological sites and describe artifact physical properties or attributes.
  • Write and maintain survey, shovel probe, monitoring, and cataloging forms.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or closely related field required.
  • Completion of an accredited Archaeology field school or comparable experience required.
  • Previous experience preferred, especially in Oregon, Washington, Idaho.
  • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required
  • General knowledge of data collection software on tablets, Microsoft Office Suite.
