Job Description and Duties

Multiple positions may be filled. This vacancy is subject to budgetary constraints.

Will also consider Environmental Planner (Archaeology)

Under the general direction of a Senior Environmental Planner, the incumbent is an interdisciplinary team member who participates in transportation systems planning and project development; prepares environmental analysis of proposed projects and modal and design alternatives; identifies environmental impacts of transportation systems, corridors and projects and formulates measures to mitigate impacts; conducts archeological surveys and site evaluations; prepares, reviews and processes environmental clearance documents for transportation systems plans and projects in compliance with all applicable local, State and Federal laws, regulations and policies; reviews environmental documents of local, State and Federal agencies; oversees consultants carrying out environmental document preparation and technical work; and prepares inventories and analyses of existing and future environmental conditions. The incumbent coordinates with outside agencies, the public, Native American Communities and Caltrans; and participates as a departmental representative on environmental issues at inter or intradepartmental meetings, public or private meetings and hearings. The incumbent must establish and maintain a professional working relationship with various local partners and interested parties involved with District 5 projects.

Working Conditions

Position(s) is located in San Luis Obispo County, CA.

Work will be done in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. While in the field, the Incumbent may be exposed to a variety of hazardous and/or unpleasant field conditions, including wet, rainy, cold, or hot weather. Hard hat, safety vest or approved safety shirt, and eye protection must be worn at all times in the field. Occasional overtime, travel, and overnight stays will be required.
