The Department of Anthropology/Archaeology in the Hafenmaier College of Arts and Social Sciences at Mercyhurst University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Archaeology to begin August 23, 2017. The Department seeks a theoretically and empirically grounded candidate with excellence in teaching, an active research program, and a commitment to excellence in field methods. A focus in US historic Archaeology and Public/Applied Archaeology is sought alongside a commitment to four-field training. Candidates with additional experience in Eastern US prehistoric archaeology are encouraged to apply.
Requirements:
Teaching requirements include introductory, upper level, and graduate courses in historic archaeology and materials analysis, public archaeology, introductory archaeology, and field methods. Candidates must be committed to actively supervising undergraduate and graduate research, and involving students in their research. The faculty member will share responsibility for administering a planned Master’s Degree in Public Archaeology, as well as departmental graduate and undergraduate recruitment, advising, and other functions.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Anthropology or Archaeology by the hire date is required. Additionally, evidence of successful teaching and a commitment to teaching excellence, a strong record of scholarship and field work, and the ability to work productively with colleagues for the advancement of the department and institution are necessary. Candidates will be expected to obtain extramural funding for their research.
