The Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Agricultural support for individuals aged 55 and over to support the Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) through a grant administered program awarded to National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). This is a unique program where your talents, expertise and experience will truly be valued. The ACES program provides an opportunity to work side-by-side with NRCS staff that are doing important work every day. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate his or her enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

NOTE: An ACES Enrollee is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ACES Enrollee is a participant in a grant program, which is established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the USDA-NRCS and administered by NEW Solutions.

Duties:

  • Cultural resources reviews and training for NRCS in Maryland
  • Conducts Phase I cultural resource investigations in accordance with the Standards and Guidelines for Archeological Investigations in Maryland and provide a report to be submitted to the Maryland Historic Trust for review and comment. 40%
  • Provide up to three (3) NRCS Cultural Resources Part 2 trainings annually. 20%
  • Review cultural resources reports prepared by contractors for consistency with professional standards, section 106 of NHPA, and NRCS requirements, and coordinate responses and corrections. 20%
  • Conduct Phase II cultural resource investigations in accordance with the Standards and Guidelines for Archeological Investigations in Maryland and provide a report to be submitted to the Maryland Historic Trust for review and comment. 10%
  • Conduct onsite monitoring to avoid damage to cultural resources and when required for tribal consultation. 10%

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in Archeology OR BA/BS Degree in Archeology, Anthropology
  • Valid State Driver’s license; 10 years field experience conducting site investigations; Must meet SOI Professional Qualifications Standards; Knowledge of cultural resources processes, including site survey/assessment protocol and report writing. Registered Professional Archeologist accreditation preferred.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word

Other:

  • Annual information system security, anti-harassment, and civil rights training.
  • Travel Requirements: Local travel within the State of Maryland to conduct site investigations.
  • Overnight travel: Up to 4 nights per month depending on project locations and distance from residence.
  • Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
