URGENT CALL TO ACTION! Email Your Senators Today We have some exciting news to share about the African American Burial Grounds Preservation Program at the National Park Service. Thanks to a new law passed in December 2022, the National Park Service can create this program to provide grants to community groups working to preserve and honor these sacred spaces in our communities. President Biden also supports this program, and his budget request for 2024 (https://www.nps.gov/orgs/1207/budgetproposalfy24.htm) includes funding for the program. This is great news, but we need Congress to provide the requested funding of $3 million to make it successful. Sen. Sherrod Brown is asking the Senate Appropriations Committee to provide this funding. We need as many senators as possible to sign onto his letter (https://heritagecoalition.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Sen.-Brown-letter-to-Appropriations-Committee-FY-24.docx.pdf) in support of the funding request. This is an important way to show Congress that this program is important to members of the SHA and needs to be funded.
