Support your junior colleagues by sharing your syllabi!
Dear colleagues,
On behalf of SHA’s Academic and Professional Training Committee (APTC), I invite you to submit your course syllabi for inclusion in an updated clearinghouse that will be made publicly available via the SHA website. Please email your syllabi to me at lydiamarshall@depauw.edu for collection.
Syllabi repositories are especially useful for new professionals, but we can all learn from reviewing the course design choices of our colleagues. We are hoping to build a robust collection, so please submit! We would appreciate syllabi for both undergraduate and graduate courses. We especially encourage submissions that highlight diverse voices in the authors they assign and the topics they cover.
The APTC also recognizes that many historical archaeologists teach courses in a variety of allied fields including cultural anthropology, biological anthropology, public history, and environmental science. We are building a collection of syllabi from courses that historical archaeologists teach, not just syllabi from historical archaeological courses. If you are assigned to teach human evolution or the anthropology of religion, chances are someone else in the SHA is in the same situation and would benefit from seeing your approach. Moreover, reviewing a syllabus provides lessons in course design and pedagogy that extend beyond just content.
I look forward with great anticipation to your submissions.
With thanks in advance for your generosity,
Lydia Marshall (lydiamarshall@depauw.edu)
