Call For Applications: SHA Newsletter Editor
After 11 years Alasdair Brooks is stepping down as Editor of the SHA Newsletter. SHA is soliciting applications for individuals interested in filling the position. Initial term of appointment is for three years with potential for renewal for additional term(s) if recommended by the SHA Board of Directors. Responsibilities for the position are listed below.

The position will begin at the annual business meeting at the SHA Conference in January 2019.
The newsletter editor is one of four editors currently appointed by the Board of Directors. The editor and the co-publications editor oversee the research publications programs, and the newsletter editor and website editor oversee the communications publications programs.
The communications editor sitting on the Board of Directors is elected by the membership from the newsletter editor and website editor.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Annually assembles, organizes, and edits news and topical columns; prepares copy for four issues per volume of the newsletter. The newsletter is the primary vehicle for disseminating news relating to the SHA and the practice of historical archaeology. As such it is a major and timely source of published information.
- Appoints current research news coordinators and other recurring contributors.
- Provides guidelines to the current research coordinators and other recurring contributors.
- Solicits news from SHA officers, board members, and committee chairs; sends out notices of newsletter submission deadlines to those individuals, current research coordinators, and other recurring contributors.
- Provides the President with names for appointment to the Communication Editor's Advisory Committee.
- Forwards requests for payment of authorized newsletter expenses to the Headquarters staff.
- Implements activities to achieve the long-range goals of the society.
