Dear SHA Members,

The SHA is pleased to announce that we have joined the Coalition for American Heritage at the leadership level. ACRA, AAA, and the SAA are also current leadership participants and other historic preservation organizations have been invited to join. Operated by our Government Affairs consultant, CHP, the Coalition seeks to monitor activities on the Hill and work with our partners to insure that the values and benefits of history, archaeology, anthropology, and historic preservation are understood and considered by all.

As an SHA member, you can sign up for email alerts, like the Coalition on Facebook, and monitor what is happening in Congress and what you can do to make your voice heard. Please visit http://www.heritagecoalition.org to connect.

The SHA will also be participating in the National Council of State Historic Preservation Officers and Preservation Action’s Advocacy Week activities March 14-16, including visits to the Hill on March 15th. You can learn more about Preservation Action, and register for Advocacy week at http://www.preservationaction.org. Please note that early registration ends February 13th. CHP has supported SHA and ACRA with a block of hotel rooms at the rate of $245/night at the Fairfax Embassy Row. You can make your reservation using this link: https://gc.synxis.com/rez.aspx?Hotel=66817&Chain=10237&Dest=WASAA&template=WASTF&shell=WASTF2&locale=en-US&group=CHP031317  This room block will close on February 22nd, so make your reservations before then— we cannot guarantee the rate will be available after that date. Note that Preservation Advocacy Week has reserved a block of rooms at the Liaison Hotel at $279/night.

If you are in the DC area, we strongly encourage you to participate, to make sure that the voices of archaeologists are heard in the choir of historic preservation. Please note SHA as your group when you register.
